The Curse

If there is one thing that Norwegian band Bellman do well its the crashing crescendos of emphatic orchestration that seems to coat everything mainman singer songwriter Arne does in a melancholic sepia colour; lashings of cello and violins ensuring that every sinew of the songs on the bands new album The Curse is all dialled in for maximum emotional impact.

Best encapsulated by the pseudo James Bond strings of I suppose or the epic Sigur Ros on Ritalin opening of the albums title track, this is a set of songs that never fail to leave an affecting swoon as their dying embers drift out of the dustiest corners of the stereo.

At its heart though the heart of Bellman seems to be eternally broken and the tenderness shown in the likes of When Im Awake lend a grandiose gravity to proceedings and makes sure that the commercial leap this album no doubt takes is rooted in the emotional connection we all felt in the first place for this norwegian songwriter.
